Cape TownCape Town is situated on the far South Western tip of Africa. Cape Town's name originated from the term 'Cape of Good Hope'.

Cape Town offers excellent nightlife, restaurants and clubs located on virtually ever corner of the city. Cape Town is a cultural melting pot with its diverse character being derived from Khoisan and other African tribes from the North, and Indonesian, French, Dutch, British and German settlers.

Cape Town is unique and the "Mother City" offers the visitor a look at the rich history and most of historic buildings have been restored to their former glory giving the visitor and insight into the past. The oldest building in South Africa, is the Castle which was built in 1666 to protect the new settlement at the Cape. This building is operational as a military base with its five stone walls also house a museum with artifacts dating back to the 17th century and troops dressed in historic uniform parade on its cobbled grounds.

Table Mountain

Table MountainSituated 1 086m above sea level, with 2 285 plant species and home to the endangered Table Mountain ghost frog, Table Mountain offers magnificent views, cable car rides, hiking and rock climbing. Table Mountain was declared a National Park in May 1998.

Kirstenbosch estate covers 528 hectares and includes both a cultivated garden and nature reserve. The gardens include Fynbos walks, Braille Trail and a Fragrance garden.

V&A Waterfront

Cape Town V & A WaterfrontCape Town's waterfront is an entertainment Mecca. It offers hotels, restaurants, pubs, clubs, cinemas and live music. A large variety of shops from old style markets to sophisticated shops. A must for every tourist.

 

Robben Island

Robben IslandThe Island was originally a quarantine station, a leper colony and a place of exile. The Island is now a National Monument. Robben Island besides Alcatraz, is the best known prison island in the world. Over the centuries Robben Island served as a penal settlement, leper colony and lunatic asylum. The Island's most famous prisoner was former President Dr Nelson Mandela. He was imprisoned for 27 years on the Island.

Wine Route

The Western Cape wine route has approximately 300 wine farms and has been producing quality wines for centuries. The diversity of wines can be found along this route and some of the more famous wine farms are in this area. An absolute must for wine lovers

The Klein Karoo begins at Montagu when you pass through Cogman's Kloof from Robertson. Will find Bloupunt with its Bertas Silver Medal Chardonnay's; Uitvlugt Winery and Montagu Winery are both on the way to the Montagu Spa. Both offer an excellent variety of whites, reds and rich Muscadels. On the way to Barrydale is Rietrivier Winery.

In the green Tradouw Valley lies Barrydale, at Vleiplaas you can learn the secrets behind the exciting new Joubert Tradouw wines, and you can overnight at Lentelus B&B. The Barrydale Winery is well known for its prize reds and Chardonnay's. Brandy is also distilled here.

Ladismith is home to the Ladismith Winery and its fine wines. Die Poort, another of the region's top wine producing cellars is situated on the southern side of the Outeniqua Mountains near Herbertsdale and Mossel Bay.

Calitzdorp is the Port Wine capital of South Africa where Boplaas, Calitzdorp Winery and Die Krans all offer an exciting range of wines.

Oudtshoorn is home to the Kango Winery and is also a brandy distiller. In the vicinity is the Grundheim Winery, famous for its potent Witblits and unique liqueurs.De Rust and Meiringspoort lie to the east. Domein Doornkraal's wine house is 21 km from Oudtshoorn and well worth a stop, as is nearby Mons Ruber.
