Port Elizabeth boardwalkThe town of Port Elizabeth was founded due to the Britons influence of at the Cape. In 1799, they built Fort Frederick to gain better control over the Boers of the hinterland. In 1820, the first 4000 British settlers landed at Algoa Bay near Port Elizabeth.

The town was named after the wife of the former Cape Governor Sir Rufane Donkin. There was a stone pyramid erected in her honour in the Donkin Reserve, a memorial park in the centre of Port Elizabeth.

Campanile To commemorate the landing of the 1820 settlers.

Addo Elephant Park

Situated in a malaria free area just one hour's drive from the South African coastal city of Port Elizabeth, the national park offers a wide variety of game viewing, outdoor adventure, accommodation and cultural experiences.

The park is situated 72 km from Port Elizabeth in the Sundays River Valley and Zuurberg Mountain range. The access road from the main road (4 km) is tarred as far as the restcamp. Roads within the restcamp and some loops of the game area roads are tarred, while other game area roads are gravel.
